Misogi Shrine
This shrine enshrines Amaterasu, a deity enshrined in a clear, green area of rich nature at the southern foot of Mount Yatsugatake (Kobuchisawa, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture). It tells the story of the revival of life - misogi. The building is the only one of its kind in the Shinmei-zukuri style. The building is the only one of its kind in the Shinmei-zukuri style, with one pillar on each side extending straight from the ground to the roof. These two pillars are called munemochi-bashira, and they support the entire building. This place is called Misogi Shrine. In writing, we have used Chinese characters, but they are phonetic equivalent. There is no meaning to the kanji. we only use the sounds. Many people think that "misogi" means to bathe in water and purify oneself in places where there is water, such as rivers, oceans, waterfalls, and so on. There is nothing wrong with that, but to put it simply, "misogi" means "to become clean". In this path, we tell people, "Nothing else exists, but in yourself. In this path, the message is, "Nothing else matters." This is where Japanese people's sense of sanity and sanctimonious way of life comes from. (Transcribed from the website of Misogi Shrine)
