Here in Fujimi-cho, I had a wonderful visit. On the second floor of the Fujimi-cho Community Plaza is the Fujimi Plateau Museum. Fujimi Plateau has been home to many great writers and poets since the Meiji period (1868-1912), and many works of literature, poetry, and haiku were born here. Many works, including those of the Araragi school, were created in the Fujimi Plateau. Among them were Kihachi Ozaki, Katai Tayama, Koji Uno, Torahiko Tamiya, Junzo Karaki, Masuji Ibushi, Sachio Ito, Mokichi Saito, Takashi Nagatsuka, Tatsuo Hori, and many other great writers. Their footprints are gathered and exhibited in one place. If you are a great lover of literature, there is no one whose name you do not know. They used to gather here at Fujimi Plateau and hold poetry gatherings.
Fujimi Plateau Hospital was established in the clean air of the Yatsugatake Mountains to serve as a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, a disease that was once incurable. The first director of the hospital, Shunji Masaki (pen name: Masaki Fujokyu), who was also a literary genius, is well known for his friendship with literary figures such as Hori Tatsuo, Takehisa Yumeji, and Yokomizo Seishii, who spent their convalescent lives here. Tatsuo Hori's fiancée, Ayako Yano, also died here while recuperating.
In October 2012, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new six-story hospital ward at the site of the former ward, and some of the exhibits and buildings from the old ward are preserved in the Fujimi Plateau Medical Welfare Center.
The history of people who loved literature and loved Fujimi Plateau is here. On the way home, I wanted to read a book of pure literature. It was such a day that such a feeling has been re-inflamed!
